Current research interest of the group spans two major topics.

The older one includes design, synthesis, and further application of novel optically active organic compounds. Nitrogen ligands based primarily on the imidazole and inexpensive and readily available source of chirality (chiral pool: a-amino acids, terpenes, tartaric acid, amines etc.) were prepared and  their complexes with transition metals were further applied in a selected asymmetric reaction. This topic is documented by 14 publications (3,6,9-11,13,14,18,21,22,25,30,38, and 40). See the publication list.

Second topic concerns development of new organic materials for optoelectronics. This mainly includes  design and preparation of organic D-p-A push-pull chromophores of various shapes, arrangements, and lengths and incorporation of various electron donors and acceptors and p-systems (aromates, multiple bonds, heteroaromates). These p-conjugated molecules are investigated as charge-transfer chromophores for nonlinear optics (NLO), semiconductors for organic field-effect transistors (OFETs), dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), solvatochromic probes,  pH-triggered and photochromic switches, fluorophores, host-guest intercalates etc. Research activity in this area is documented by 26 artiles (4,7,8,12,15,16,19,20,23,24,26,27,29,31-36,39,42,46,47,51, and 52) and two reviews (41 and 49). Such organic materials are prepared by cross-coupling reactions. Hence, our activity in the area of transition metals-catalyzed reactions is evidenced by articles 1,18, and 37. See the publication list.
